アニメ映画『ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:破』の公開時期が2009年初夏に決定。
前作となる『序』は、興行収入20億円を記録。同作品の国内DVDセールスはこれまでに60万枚を突破し、この数字は2008年DVD総合売り上げランキング1位だそうです。
その他、韓国で上映されたほか、アメリカ、フランスなど世界25ヶ国での配給も決定。世界中にエヴァンゲリオンの名前が知れ渡る。
第1部の『序』ではテレビシリーズのヤシマ作戦までが語り直されたが、『破』ではまさしく"破"という文字通りの、常識を打ち破るオリジナル展開へと突入。
今回の劇中ではアスカと弐号機の登場。
『序』のラストの予告編チラ見程度だった、新キャラクターと新エヴァンゲリオンがついに登場。
ストーリー、映像において、誰も知らないエヴァンゲリオンが目にできる。
また、『新劇場版』は「全4部作(公開は3回を予定)」ということで、『破』に続く第3部『ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:急』と完結編『ヱヴァンゲリヲン新劇場版:?』が同時公開になることが決定しているそうです。
